Diploma in Business and Project Management

The design of the Business and Project Management Diploma Programme reflects Tanzania Institute of Project Management’s desire to address contemporary demands in the Government, public and private sectors including Non Governmental Organizations, thereby incorporating such considerations into the development of the project management curriculum.

In line with the educational gap stipulated clearly in the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction, the programme places great emphasis on transforming the mindsets of students on business and project management and promote attitudes of self-development, creativity, confidence, commitment and innovation in addressing the social and economic problems of the country.

Programme Philosophy

Project-based work has a long tradition. Our innovative curriculum, carefully compiled to include all the skills that students need in order to be effective practitioners, focuses on achieving the right balance between practice and theory in business and project management.

The philosophy is based on the following principles:

To stimulate student interest in designing and implementing business project ideas to improve business performance.
To provide advanced knowledge and skills in project management to apply in business initiatives
To produce graduates who are ready to compete into labour market (formal and informal sector) and satisfy the industry needs locally and internationally
To prepare students for Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) exams from PMI U.S.A
To satisfy the requirements of the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) being the regulating body for Technical Education in the country.

Curriculum Specific Areas of Concern

Our programme describes the evolution of project management and project management education. In particular, our review of the literature and of project management training programs demonstrates the focus on standardization of the field and on preparation for the professional designation of project managers.

The programme also discusses the impact of taking complexity seriously on meeting the right requirements for professional development of project practitioners and Project Managers. We lay out the requirements for preparing Project professionals to handle complexity and present a comprehensive model of project management development.

Finally, the programme focuses on the characteristics of an appropriate framework of project management education that embraces uncertainty and unknown possibilities. In particular, we examine how our curriculum may help to develop a learning community that collaboratively questions existing theory and practice and develops innovative approaches as well as caters for the needs of project management practitioners for extensive learning opportunities within a flexible learning environment.
